Saturday, 12/19/15: Our Tournament had only 19 players, the same as a year ago for the Christmas game. Great play and lots of fun, The Prize Pool was a not insignificant $1110. Some expected and other surprising winners. First place Chuck with David L (who made a startling chip recovery during play) as runner-up, Third was Kevin W, 4th Matt C and 5th D'Anna. 5555J was the recognized high hand won by Chris. Due to my error a higher hand was not recognized, the rules are being clarified and the error corrected. Congratulations to all the players, we had a good year.
Our cash game is so very popular, when I left after 1AM two tables were still going strong. I am very proud how that aspect of our game has grown. It was noted there were $60 in donations from the prior cash game - good work Kevin.
The New Cash chips are getting very strong reviews, glad they are well received.
We have donated to the Club House a propane powered stand type space heater for the patio. The tank and cover is here I think but still waiting on the main unit. Out smoking and story telling may become a 12 months a year thing.
Some players made a very wonderful Christmas gift to Mary. It means a lot to her and she thanks all for their good wishes.
Issue was raised about what is shown on the poker room TV. It is clear that sports events are the most popular by a wide margin but which event to watch is the question. I have, in the past, just asked the club house staff to put on what ever game/event I have been requested to have play. So far I have not received more then one prior request per poker night. There are competing desires for what to display so I am looking for advice on the best way to handle this. Complaining and moaning about the choice of the event seems child like and reduces the enjoyment of the poker. I am listening for what would be the best way for members to chose what is displayed. Lets keep it simple.
The Heritage Poker Club provided the club house staff a well earned lunch as a Christmas Gift. Thank you staff for supporting our club.

Saturday. 10/17/15: We welcome new members Alan B, Sean B, Will K, Chad G, and Jay A. These members join our ever increasing membership roll.
The Tournament prize pool was $1470 with three packed tables. Emotions ran strong among some of the players but overall the game was well played. The winners were first place Will K, runner-up was John L, 3rd was Sean B, 4th Sumant M and 5th was Chad G. All the final table participants played very well and it could have been anyone's game. Congragadulation to all the winners, good play. It should be noted that Will, Sean and Chad are new members and even if they took my buy-in I hope they return. No winner of the the Tournament High Hand this game.
Special thanks to Members Will K and John L who donated $40 each of their Tournament winnings to the HPC.
Our Cash Game was well attended with up to 17 players at one time and two tables going until the early morning hours when those of us who should know better continued to play, I left after 3 and the game did not appear to be breaking up. Kevin was just headed back into the game as I departed. I did well and am grateful to have out kicked my opponents on several occasions. No winner of the Cash High Hand.
Our tournament app, Poker Timer by Ron Booth worked flawlessly. We are looking forward to having custom graphics available in the next version.
We bought more chips and can now host a much larger game, lets work to get the players here.
Matt D and his firm Keene and Associates, a Fort Worth based SEC registered investment advisory firm keenassocates.com generously donated $100 for a prize drawing. The winning ticket was drawn by Mary B and it won by Robert L. Congratulations on the win. A special thanks to Matt and Keene and Associates for helping the club.
Our club's donation to the Heritage Hurricanes was $460 in cash. The donation was presented by our Treasurer John C and was received by poker club member, HOA board member and Hurricane lead Alan B. Alan expressed appreciation to the HPC and stated the donation would be used for crucial needs of the Hurricanes.
Would you like to go on a "Poker Safari" to Windstar with you HPC friends, well Matt D has offered to coordinate such an activity if the interest is there. Details are to be worked out so stay tuned for the latest.
Our next game at the club house is Saturday, November 7, 2015
Saturday, 10/3/15: Brought us new and welcomed members John L, Todd F, and Kenny S - Welcome to HPC The Best "Home" game in Texas. Due to an epic fail in my record keeping I could have easily missed someone, if so I apologize and will work to correct it. Thanks to the members who helped fill in some of the information.
The Tournament had a prize pool of $1200 with 3 very active tables. By the time we were down to one table the action was very strong and much of the play was first class. The winners were First Place: Richard B, Runner-up Judy H, 3rd Steven M, 4th Todd F and 5th John L (Steven, Todd and John are new to our game, took the money, enjoyed themselves and we hope to see them return). On a special note we had a "bubble prize" won by Chris L, this was a copy of one of Phil Gordon's great poker books. Congratulations to all the tournament winners. $50 was pocketed by Bill D for drawing a tournament high hand of QQQQK, Great hand Bill.
The cash game included two tables and was able to send me home early. There was excitement all around and if someone who stayed late wants to add something to this story please email me and I'll out it in out NEWS. In a case of rich getting richer we have the tournament winner Rich B also hitting the $90 prize high hand with 8888A, in the cash game - congratulations.
We had issues with our time keeping App but I have received an email assurance from the developer that the issue will be addressed this week.
Saturday, 9/19/15: Brought us new member Ben K. Welcome!
The Tournament had a prize pool of $1350 for 3 full tables. Lots of action but the winners were 1st - Kevin W, 2nd - Mary B, 3rd - "Lt" Dan - 4th Deanie W and 5th John C.
The cash game finally gave me a bit of profit but by the time I left Sumant M had the best cash out but what I could see of the tables Rich G and Kevin W were doing OK.
We had no Tournament High Hand or by the time I left a Cash High Hand.
Our Next Game will be: Saturday, October 3, 2015
The Hurricane Swim Team promotion is scheduled for Saturday. October 17, 2015 BIG EVENT.
Site Lock is fully functional making our web site much more secure.
In the Fine Print rules section we emphised and clarified game behavior and practice.
Our timer app is fully functional and operational. On the Apple iOS App Store see Poker Timer 4.0 by Ron Booth.
Saturday, 9/5/15 brought us new member Chris L introduced by Rob L. Welcome Chris.
The Tournament had a generous $1500 prize pool. The winners were the likely suspects: 1st - Jeff H, 2nd - Judy H, 3rd - David J, 4th - David L and 5th Rich G.
"Lt" Dan hosted the game and did a great job - Thanks.
I played and went out on the bubble, I was a Q - J and Judy H at T - 4 guess which hand won. I cried for 45 minutes. If I recall right, Judy knocked 3 of us out on the hand, she got the right price to call and played great all night.
The Cash game was very active, and this without Kevin - just hard to imagine. Jen ran the game and her hard work is much appreciated. I left early still sobbing over the bubble finish in the Tourney. Thank you Jen for doing such a great job.
NOTICE - SPECIAL EVENT on Saturday, October 17, 2015 the Heritage Poker Club in conjunction with the "Hurricanes", the Heritage Swim Team, will jointly host our poker event. Details to follow but this event is likely to have the largest prize pool, payouts, number of players and number of new members ever. You are not going to want to miss this big event.
The "Big Stack" game held on FRIDAY had at least 7 members and guests not realize until Saturday that the game had been played and scheduled for Friday. In the future I will work to get the day of the week of the event understood by all.
Our website was attacked but apparently without success. In cooperation with our web host we have installed "SiteLock" a strong suite of defense type software that may help keep our site safe. Of course we never ask for anything like a Social Security Number, Date of Birth or put "PoP-Ups" or such.
Lots of help Saturday night; from putting up chairs to the cash game and Tourney - Thank you all for the help.
Friday, 8/21/15 brought us three new members: Jay and Sherry T and Renee G welcome to the best home game in Texas.
The Tournament was a monster "Deep Stack" and the last hand played out at Midnight. $1750 in the prize pool made this one of the richest of our events. The field drew down to 5 likely suspects and to really no ones surprise they were all some of our better players. With over a half million chips in play there were some wild swings in fortune. A special shout out to Sumant M for the tournament high hand of a diamond straight flush to the Queen, I think he liked the $50 prize. He did not rest on those laurals, he cashed first in the tournament , runner-up was Lt. Dan O in a dual that tested both players, 3rd was Mary "AA" B, 4th Ben G and 5th Jerry H. It was close fought until the last hand, congratulations to all the players and who cashed. I guess the single greatest surprise is that this was a deep stack tournament and Kevin W did not win. Obviously a statistical fluke that his spouse corrected during the second break.
During the second break all the members were keen to see who won the $555 award, the tickets were issued, placed in the tumbler and given a number of hearty turns. AA was chosen to draw the ticket and John C awarded Felicia W the pot, to be fair and balanced she did have one of the highest point totals, we wish her well on beating Kevin, oh - I mean on winning.
We adjusting our blind structure a bit, to give our players more 15 more minutes until the first break. We will try this for two events and reevaluate.
During an earlier event a player may have departed his table for a Re-Buy and upon returning took a seat at another table. Return to your earlier seat when Re-Buying.
The Saturday 8/8/15 game was notable for it firsts. We had 3 new members join Ben G, Jacob N and Dan P. We welcome the new members and encourage them to continue to participate. We also witnessed the return of one of our old friends from the time the club started Eddy K, whose work now may give him more time to play, welcome back Eddy.
The Tournament was our typically hard fought affair with the chip lead going back and forth several times. "Lt Dan's" son, Sean was running good, making top notch decisions and was the overwhelming chip leader but the poker Gods had other plans. As it turned out those who shared our $1170 prize pool were from 1st to 5th: Matt D, Jeff H, Sean O, Harold D, and Nancy S - who not satisfied to be in the money in the tournament also earned $50 with the tournament High Hand JJJJ5 - as fate would have it, earlier in the evening she had quads at showdown but failed to have the required pocket pair - so initially close to the high hand but then fully successful. Congratulations to all our winners.
The iPad poker app worked flawlessly and new features are being rolled out soon. One of these features are expected to include being able to "broadcast" the clock to any wifi connected iOS device. Now just hypothetically - say someone was smoking a cigar on the deck, lets just call him "Kevin", and he wanted to keep track of when the break was over, well "Kevin" could follow the tournament clock on his phone.
Thanks to the many members who issued a proxy for the HOA meeting on Monday, I will follow your instructions in the submission.
"Pot Confussion" I will be adding to the "fine print" page, we need to "respect" the pot more and not have too many hands in there - specifically "making change" should be done by the dealer or at least in cooperation with the dealer. With 4 or 5 players adjusting and taking their change prior to the betting round be completed causes confusion and delays. I saw one table where this occurred twice and another one once. I understand the physical layout of the tables, the various skill levels and backgrounds of our players and not having designated dealer all make this harder and somewhat difficult to monitor but lets continue to work together.
A test of an electric card shuffler was run for most of the evening at one table, the results were mixed. I may be prepared to report by the time we get out the next "NEWS" issue.
Special thanks to those who pitched in on the color-ups and chair pick-ups - goes easy when there is cooperation.
The Saturday 7/25/15 game is now in the books. Winners were, from 1st to 5th James, Todd, D'Anna, Dave and Jeff. Congratulations to these five winners who shared a $1380 Prize Pool. My efforts at the tournament lacked any semblance of thought and as a result I found my self on the rail early.
The Cash game had wins that were notible. First Steve showed lots of skill in the game and cashed out fairly serious money. Rich, back from his world travels hit the cash high hand with JJJJK. Great play by both of you.
"LT. Dan" hosted the tournament event and did his usual outstanding job -Thanks Dan
I did not get hurt too bad, for the night down just $55 with the tournement and cash combined. Enjoyable night.
We now have enough chips to easily cover a deep stack tournament with 50 players. I guess it time for the next one.
Given that my iPad was so old of a version that the grandkids made fun, looking for the hand crank. So we got a new iPad mini 2. Great color and can support the newest poker timer software.
The app we use for the tournament is call Poker Timer. We are working with Ron Booth, the apps author to test the newest version which our players are using before it release to the public. Based on the positive comments about the timer last night I am sure it will be successful. Some of features being developed for this App is "Broadcast" where we can allow any number of folks to view the clock and the TD to control the clock remotely. As we start using the advanced features Ill let you know. So here is a shout out to Ron and "Poker Timer" for keeping Heritage Poker Club in mind.
We shared the club house with Vicki and David for their wedding yesterday - congratulation to the happy couple and I expect we will see both as active club members.
The Friday 7/10/15 game was very active. Two, three and even four bets were seen. Yours truly was doing fine until the first hand following the break when I found myself heads-up with Doyle, caught with a non-premium hand I hope to power though it but got called by Doyle and I was out.
Goes to show, no matter how many hands you play well, a single error can end your night. Jeff continued his winning ways and showed great discipline and some suck outs too, need both to win. I got the High Hand $50 incentive with AAATT - guess the absence of Kevin W had some benefit.
Jen's returned to the game with the welcome of everyone. Not just for the coffee but the great conversation and good cheer, Jen just retire so you can stop all this travel.
The cash game without Kevin and his crew was a bit less exciting but we played until 1:30 and had two tables for awhile. We had some early hit and runs, but the good money at the end of the night went James L. Bing to his left gave me a bit of cover and I netted a few dollars.
Our great partners who manage the HOA have made more Saturday games available to us. Check the schedule.
Special thanks to the member who helped me close up. Well that's it, stay tuned.
